Summer Therapy Program for Children with Autism

  June 7 - August 4, 2010

What does the Program Consist of?
The summer program operates from 8:30-4:00 Mondays thru Thursdays, and Fridays are from 8:30-3:00 for the children. On these Fridays, the staff holds weekly training sessions and meetings to provide the best continuing service to our clients. Additional afterschool care is available until 5:15 pm on Mondays thru Thursdays at no cost to the family.

During our summer school program we work on teaching new language skills, which increase social-communication skills, reduce problematic behavior(s); increase socialization skills, and academic skills. Our summer therapy program operates on a 1:1 ratio. Your child's therapist will have a college degree in either education or psychology and prior experience working with children. In addition, each of our therapists goes through intensive training in Applied Behavior Analysis and Verbal Behavior that will help each child learn better. Additional trainings include First Aid, CPR, PCM, Social Skills Training, and various other applicable trainings.

What do we do for you?
The Applied Behavior Center for Autism is the only full service center in Indiana. This means that we complete all the necessary funding applications, authorizations, and forms. In addition, we submit all the billing and handle all issues concerning funding that may arise. These services are provided to our families, so that they can spend more time with their child(ren) and less time worry about these issues. In addition, we provide and have the highest standards for therapists in the state, master's and Ph.D level board certified behavior analyst (BCBA). All necessary therapy and learning materials are provided within our program at no additional cost. We also cover the cost of community outings and other socialization activities, as well as transportation to the location in one of our buses.

Beginning a child's Program?

In addition, we will assess your child with the A.B.L.L.S-R or the VB-MAAP assessment that covers multiple skill areas including language, socialization, academic, and several other skill areas. We will provide you with the findings of this assessment and create an individual treatment plan (ITP) that fits your individual child. All of our programs are individualized to each specific child, as each child is so different. Parental input is essential to develop and maintain a successful program. Input from parents is always welcome and we maintain the understanding that "A parent will always know their child better than anyone else." One of our Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will consult with you and your child's therapist(s) on a regular basis to ensure that the best program is provided to your child. Home consultations are also available for parents, so that we may carry over interventions that can assist each child in their home.

Is Transportation available?
We currently offer pick up/drop off transportation service to most of the Hamilton county area with one of our buses. Additional regions may be available, so please contact us with questions concerning this matter. We attempt to make enrollment possible for families. In accordance with Indiana law, all applicable children will need to be placed in a child or booster seat when being transported.

Is my child a candidate?
The Summer Therapy program is available for children ages 3 and up with an autism spectrum disorder. Our program is created for the benefit of children and their families, so there are no prerequisites; however our team will discuss placement with each family and determine if placement within our program will be beneficial to your child. We work with a variety of different children and approach each child's education with the individual attention that it needs and deserves.

How much therapy does my child need?
The length of a child's program is dependant upon the individual child. However, most children receive between 20-40 hours of therapy a week and 4-10 hours of ABA/Behavior consulting per month. This is the amount of treatment is proven by research to the most effective amount of intervention. To find out more about coverage, please click here.

Social skills are a large emphasis of the summer program and are addressed systematically throughout the program beginning with one-to-one peer interactions, then small groups, later moving to more advanced group instruction and other high level social skill interactions. In addition, frequent diverse community outings and field trips during the summer program are created to facilitate social skills development within natural environment conditions.
